Gorgeous pink wedding in Kildare and Woodford Dolmen Hotel in Carlow

When Niamh got in touch and told us she was getting married and wanted us to capture it, we knew we were in for a good time! We’ve known Niamh and her family for a few years now and have had the honour of photographing them many times: first for her sister Louise’s engagement portraits (with dog Scruffy!), then her wedding, followed by family portraits and newborn pictures for both of Louise’s gorgeous boys. Needless to say, the Kelly’s are part of the DesignWorks family at this stage! (even Niamh’s dad told us that they’ve decided it’s not a family event unless we’re at it! Aww, thanks Con!) So we were thrilled at the idea of spending another fun filled day with them! We knew the wedding would be stunning, Niamh loves her glamour and has amazing attention to detail and she did not disappoint! The perfect blend of pink-loving Disney princess glam (look at the cake!) with nods to groom Gordon’s love of Back to the Future, this wedding was truly and utterly THEM! From DeLorean cars to pink Jimmy Choos this gorgeous wedding was filled with personal touches and glam surprises.

It was a gloriously sunny day in Kildare for Niamh and Gordon’s special day. The hot pink bridesmaids’ dresses looked amazing alongside the dashing green uniforms of Gordon’s fellow soldiers who provided a guard of honour, and were great fun on the day! Annie Powderly provided the stunning soundtrack to a moving ceremony, followed by much welcomed 99’s from an ice-cream truck! Then it was on to The Woodford Dolmen Hotel where guests were greated with pink cocktails and delicious tiny scones while enjoying the beautiful gardens and riverbank that was just ideal for portraits! There wasn’t a dry eye in the house during the particularly moving speeches, and once the party started, it was sadly time for us to say goodbye. Until the next Kelly event of course!

Tanya & Rory’s Modern City Wedding | Glam Wedding at Brasco’s Skerries

Modern pink and navy wedding in Dublin

Tanya & Rory’s wedding was like a reunion of sorts: both of us grew up 2 doors up from Rory (in Rush) and our families still live in the area so we all know each other really well since childhood! We photographed Tanya’s family in our studio recently so really, there were no strangers at this wedding! No ‘getting to know each other’, it was more like meeting old friends.

They told us from the beginning that they wanted their wedding to be relaxed & intimate, just a special day for them, their 3 gorgeous kids and their closest family and friends.  Tanya was always going to be an elegant and stylish bride, in her modern (and wonderfully on trend) blush pink beaded gown, perfectly accented by FABULOUS rose gold sparkly shoes and clutch bag. Rory’s navy suit was the perfect foil for the pops of pink throughout the day. We started the day with them in the city centre, going for a walk around one Rory’s favourite spots along the Grand Canal. Then we returned to Skerries for a few quick portraits at Skerries Mills followed by family portraits and the party in Brasco’s restaurant at Skerries harbour. We had so much fun with Tanya & Rory (and their adorable kids!) that we were sorry to say goodbye at the end of the day.

Take better photos in front of the Christmas Tree!

Let’s be honest – we love this time of year. Everything is sparkly, eating copious amounts of baked items is encouraged, and family and friends make a special effort to be together no matter how busy we are are! Also, there are very few days when it’s acceptable to drink Bailey’s at 2pm! (so I’m told!)

We ALL love taking taking group shots of the gang together at Christmas – here are a few tips to make that easier:

  1. For a big group – Set your camera to landscape (to make sure all the people and the tree are in focus). Give yourself plenty of light too! If it’s not bright enough in the room, turn on the main light or use flash. For smaller groups try portrait mode, again plenty of light is key! Move nearer the the window if necessary.
  2. All adults need to push their chins forward and down for a flattering portrait! Think of it like this: push your forehead towards the camera – it takes years off you in a photo!
  3. Turn slightly sideways onto the camera -don’t face the camera square on. Turn 45 degrees and you’ll look slimmer!
  4. Try to laugh and not smile in a photo! It looks much more natural! Say a silly word – it will look great! (smelly socks, silly sausages or pizza all work well!)

Get ready to enjoy better selfies!  P.S.  Now, you know as well as I do that group selfies are tons of fun, but for some uses they aren’t quiiiite the same as a photo someone else took.  If you’d like at least one family photo that doesn’t include anyone’s arms sticking out of the side of the frame, and you want someone to take it who knows how to make everyone look fabulous, here’s an easy way to get one: we have a great offer this Christmas for a one hour family session plus a 20″ wall portrait (as a fine art canvas or an artblock) for just €250 (save €130!) Get in touch on 018021100 or email to grab one!
