From New York to Drogheda – Delia & Derick’s Boyne Valley Wedding
Modern and Romantic Boyne Valley wedding
We were greeted with open arms and warm hugs when we arrived at the bride and groom’s bedrooms that morning, despite the fact that it was our first time meeting the couple who had only flown in from New York a few days prior. It really didn’t matter though, from the first email to the time we spoke on Skype we knew that Delia & Derick were our kind of couple: warm, friendly, easy going and determined to have a good time! This was gonna be FUN!
We love romantic tales and meaningful locations and theirs doesn’t disappoint: Together since they were just 16 (introduced by BFF Wendy – ‘thanks Wendy!’), when it came to choosing where to marry, Derick & Delia’s strong ties to Ireland made it an easy choice with Delia’s great grandparents Christened and Married in St Mary’s Church, Drogheda and her parents honeymooned here many years ago. Irish relative Sean took on the job of wedding planner extraordinaire and did a fabulous job! (We can get his details if other couples want to hire him!) So they packed their bags and along with 70 of their friends and family hopped on a plane from New York to Ireland for the destination wedding of their dreams!
The very talented Delia made the modern paper bouquets and boutonierres by hand, featuring sunny yellow and elegant printed book pages with touches of modern chrome. FAB! Delia’s stunning engagement ring was a family heirloom belonging to her Mother’s Godmother and suited Delia perfectly: understated, elegant and unique. The ceremony was relaxed and romantic with wonderful music from Snow Patrol to Andrew Lloyd Webber. There wasn’t a dry eye in the house (including ours!) by the second line of All I Ask of You! Then it was on to the beautiful Boyne Valley Hotel where the guests enjoyed champagne and Guinness (of course!) and we dodged the showers while taking photographs in the beautiful grounds of the hotel. It wouldn’t be an Irish wedding if we didn’t have to run from the rain at least once! Still, the sun came back out and we were able to sneak back out with Delia & Derick to create some stunning portraits in the woods. Derick does love his trees!
We were genuinely sorry to say goodbye to Delia & Derick at the end of the evening, knowing that we’d probably never meet again as they were flying home soon after! Still we were so honoured and grateful that they chose us to capture their magical day, knowing that they will be taking a piece of our Irish hearts back to New York with them.
